THE CRAFTING OF HERALDRY
Each metal shield is handcrafted from 18-gauge cold-rolled steel, then powder coated to help prevent rust. Every design element is then painted by hand following the original heraldic designs and images, using modern sign enamels that prevent colour fading. Every metal shield comes complete with the ridged and riveted edge in metallic silver, two welded metal hooks and a chain for easy display.

Prices for the hand painted metal shields vary depending on the complexity of the design and the size of the shield itself. The 18" x 22" Half Size Shield (left) fits nicely on any castle wall and is priced from $275 to $735*. The 24" x 30" Full Size Shield (center) is about the size of an actual jousting shield. Our best seller, the Full Size Shield is priced from $385 to $980*. The 36" x 45" Battle Shield (right) is for the serious collector. This massive metal shield is priced from $610 to $1,665*.

Individual Coats of Arms
Here are just a few examples of the hundreds of beautiful hand painted metal shields we have painted over the past twelve years. The three full size shields pictured here (left to right) are of the arms of Maryland (Lord Baltimore), Carmody of Ireland and Livingston (Earl of Linlithgow) of Scotland. NOTE: Although most Hand Painted Metal Shield orders are completed in TEN to TWELVE months, there are NO set due dates unless a RUSH Charge is assessed.
Combined Coats of Arms
We can also combine two coats of arms onto one shield to show the union of two families. The combined shield is divided into four quarters, with the male arms in the first and fourth quarters, and the female arms in the second and third quarters. The full size shield pictured here shows the arms of Adams of Ireland (red with golden-yellow heart & crosses) in the first and fourth quarters, and the arms of Littell of England (black fleurs-de-lis on white, a white castle tower on black) in the second and third quarters. And although prices vary depending on the complexity of the two designs, please note that the Combined Coat of Arms is a bit more expensive than ordering two separate shields. This is due to the fact that we are rendering FOUR Coats of Arms on the Combined Shield -- TWO for EACH Family line. The Combined Coats of Arms will also take longer to complete than Single Coats of Arms. (NOTE: The Combined Coats of Arms are not available on the Half Size Shield.)
The Ridged and Riveted Edge
Each rivet head is punched by hand, one at a time, and the edge is painted a bright metallic silver. All shield prices include the ridged and riveted edge in bright metallic silver. Rendering the edge in a brilliant metallic gold (right), in place of the silver, is priced as follows: Half Size Shield add $29, Full Size Shield add $49, Battle Shield add $99. The half size shield pictured here is of the arms of Grimm of Germany (red field with golden-yellow lion and black & white border) rendered with both the rampant lion and the ridged and riveted edge in metallic gold. Prices for rendering the design elements in metallic gold in place of golden-yellow (and/or metallic silver in place of white) vary depending on the complexity of the image and the size of the shield.
Grips and Straps
Each sturdy 1/8" thick, 1" wide leather strap is riveted by hand with the rivet heads painted to match the front of the shield.
Two leather straps add $79
For those who wish a more secure carry for their shield, it can be fitted with a welded metal grip and one leather strap. Add $99
